Gaps in Medicare Part D Coverage Causing Seniors to Stop Meds. A report out indicates that when seniors fall into coverage gaps, 15% stop taking anti-cholesterol medication and 28% stop taking their heart medications. The majority do not resume taking these medications once coverage resumes. Strategies must be employed to further reform prescription drug coverage and to provide medication therapy management to prevent long-term complications of drug regimen nonadherence.
